Diagnostic testing plays a vital role in understanding your pets health.
Early detection allows us to identify concerns sooner, improve treatment outcomes, and establish baseline information for future care.
As a pet parent, you may notice when something “isn’t quite right” with your pet, but determining the cause is not always straightforward. That is where diagnostic testing comes in. At Intermountain Pet Hospital, Overland, our veterinary team is committed to providing a complete picture of your pets health through advanced laboratory and diagnostic services, helping us make informed decisions and deliver the best possible care.

From preventative screenings to sophisticated diagnostics.
Blood & Lab Tests
Knowing when your pet is unwell is one of the most challenging parts of pet care. Annual blood and lab tests help determine a normal baseline for your pet's health. Monitoring these results over time allows us to diagnose problems early, increasing the likelihood of timely intervention and recovery so your pet can live their best life.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a painless, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of your pet’s heart. It is primarily used to detect abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and to monitor heart rate. ECGs may be recommended if an irregular heartbeat is heard on exam, if your pet is experiencing fainting episodes, or as part of pre-anesthetic screening in certain patients. The test is quick, well tolerated, and provides valuable information about heart rhythm.
Tonometry
Tonometry is a quick, non-invasive test used to measure the pressure inside your pet’s eyes. Abnormal eye pressure can be associated with conditions such as glaucoma or inflammation within the eye. This simple procedure is typically well tolerated and can usually be performed during a routine exam without the need for sedation.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging resource that helps us confirm the presumptive diagnosis. Ultrasound images are often ordered by your vet alongside x-rays, to get a more complete picture of your pet’s health.
Video Otoendoscopy
Video otoendoscopy uses a small camera to provide magnified visualization of your pet’s ear canal. This allows us to better evaluate conditions such as ear infections, inflammation, foreign material, or structural concerns. It can also assist with thorough ear cleaning and targeted treatment when needed. Improved visualization helps support more precise care while prioritizing your pet’s comfort and safety.
Rhinoscopy
Rhinoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows us to examine the nasal passages using a small camera. It may be recommended for pets experiencing chronic nasal discharge, persistent sneezing, nosebleeds, or breathing difficulties. This procedure helps us better evaluate the underlying cause and guide appropriate treatment. Our team will discuss whether rhinoscopy is indicated based on your pet’s individual condition.
Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small camera to directly examine the bladder and lower urinary tract. It allows us to diagnose conditions such as recurrent urinary tract infections, incontinence, bladder stones, masses, or structural abnormalities. In some cases, small stones can be removed or tissue samples can be collected during the procedure. Our team performs cystoscopy under anesthesia to ensure your pet’s comfort and safety.
